How I recovered my lo*t wal*et and 10k, and what i found: almost a month ago, i lost a se*d ph*ase that i thought i backed up but didn't, which led me to lose 10k. for a whole month, my PC was unusable because i didn't wanna overwrite the partitions, log cache or even any tiny bits information. but here's what i did - took out ssd and ran photorec (recovering tool) from another machine -- probably ran 10 times, each lasting 12-16 hours - went thru hundreds of partitions to find a .txt file where i copied that one particular seed phrase (it didn't copy first itme and that's why i lost it) - tried finding traces in extension folders of chrome, did a deep search, but nothing - couldnt find any traces of it, so almost gave up and installed chrome from the start. my terminal prompted that my machine name is different, and chrome is expecting "xyz" machine name. - chrome actually saves all the things in `.config` folder in your root or home dir. mine was in home dir but it got overwritten partly because of new chrome instance, so i ran photorec 2-3 times more and recovered the .config with timestamp before the deletion - found extensions with traces of different wal*ets like mm, rainbow and phantom but they ofcourse didnt store the phrase - force changed my machine name so that chrome gets tricked into opening the old instance of my broswer - as soon as i opened the older instance of chrome from .config folder, i found out everything was there. - exact copy of my old chrome with all extensions, same passwords and wal*ets and same profiles - i opened my lost wal*et and it had that 10k amount what did i find? basically .config dir will have all your chrome info including wal*ets. they dont store se*d ph*ases, but they are a temporary time capsules and if you ever lose your access, you can get it that way. it's ofcourse not a security flaw and people lose their phr*ses in a lot other ways. i was just lucky for this specific wallet because i created this in rush and forgot to note it down on a paper. if you are ever in similar situation, you know what to do now. 🫡
