Roberto "David" Davidson ran a small shoe and watch repair shop in New York City's West Village for 42 years. People from all around trusted his hands and his heart. David is 79 years old and dreams of passing his shop on to his son. But after years of hard times and rising rent, that dream began to fade. By 2024, he had $65,000 in unpaid rent and was forced to close the doors for good. David now parks his car outside his old store at 508 Hudson Street every Sunday from 1-4 PM. He works from the trunk of his car. He fixes soles, heels, and watches with the same love he's always had. Some people stop by just to say thank you for all of the repairs over the years. His community started a GoFundMe to help him finally retire, and it's raised over $53,000 so far. Even without a storefront, David still shows up every week and he's got his tools in hand. The world may change, but kindness, hard work, and love for what you do never go out of style.
