/ I hate the word Yap. I really do. Before Kaito, the word Yap had a negative connotation: it signified an act of talking aimlessly, without meaning, often just to hear themselves talk. In the physical world, we tune out people who Yap 🧵
/ My wife and I have adopted kids who came to us with RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder). One symptom is “jabbering”: compulsive, rapid, excessive talking used to control their environment. It's a clinical term, but it’s basically nonstop yapping.
/ The definition of Jabbering is what I experience on crypto twitter, hbu? A compulsive, rapid, and often meaningless or excessive stream of talking by the child to: control the environment avoid emotional vulnerability get attention one-sided disconnected from context
/ So, if Yapping is Jabbering, then what's the alternative? Thoughtful Regulated Reciprocal conversation It's not hard to communicate in a way that's not jabbering. But it takes intentionality and care. That's it: you just have to actually care.
/ I’ll do my part not to Yap or Jabber. I’ll talk about my podcast guests, products I use, and post memes I like. But I'll do my best not to contribute to the noise. ** Except when I’m in reply-guy mode chasing engagement from high-value futbol accounts. **
/ At bottom, this whole InfoFi thing has gotten us all confused. By calling it InfoFi, it abstracts the very thing that is most important in communication: clarity and thoughtfulness. and care. Maybe we should get back to that.
