SEASON 5 NORTHSTAR METRIC🌟 For Season 5, I believe the NorthStar metric that we as a community should focus on is # of decks. Season 4 averaged 3,410 players per week. Season 4 averaged 25,628 decks per week. The reason to focus on # of decks is the shift to top heavy payouts. I believe this shift will bring more competitive players to the game. Competitive players spend more and will play more decks than casual players. What ELO failed in was driving more competitive players to the game. It penalized players for playing more decks, and we didn’t know what the payout for ELO would be. Now prizes are clear. We competitive players have the opportunity to win more than we have before. Last season, I averaged playing 18 decks per tournament. I will likely average 25 decks per tournament this season. That’s almost 40% more decks, and I’m just 1 competitive player. This is an example of farming going away, which means more risk. More reward. More activity. More exposure. More of everything we love about the game. BTW, casual players evolve into competitive players as they enjoy the game more or taste what winning feels like. 3. FLYWHEEL🎡 Season 5 starts the flywheel of extra prizes. From my back-of-the-napkin math, last season averaged 60 ETH in trading volume per week. FT takes a 4% fee. That’s about 2.4 ETH per week in revenue. We all know volume is up, going into S5, but let’s stick with this conservative calculation of 2.4 ETH per week in revenue, and assume this is the only extra funnel for additional prizes (it’s not). That’s an extra $10k per week/$500k per year for prizes, which should come into play in the following season. You add a seasonal sponsor like @ParallelTCG (shoutout @ParallelAiRev) for $100k, and that’s an extra $16k per week/$825k per year for prizes. You add a burn leaderboard for each season, and that’s an extra $6k per week/$300k per year for prizes. That puts us over $250k weekly prizes/$13m yearly prizes again. If this season starts to point toward everything I mentioned above, I think we’ll see prizes going into 2026 reaching closer to $400k weekly/$20m yearly. How? 2 simple parts.
