New Executive Order's impact on Canadian goods. TLDR: the duty rate on Canadian goods is increasing from 25% to 35%. effective 12:01 am on August 1st (this morning). USMCA (new NAFTA) exemptions will not change. Goods transshipped to avoid the duties will incur an additional 40% tariff (on top of the 35%) along with possible fines and penalties. Note from me: Still no clarity on why transhipping goods through Canada or any other country would affect their duty rate. Those goods would just be subject to the duty rate for their actual country of origin and the transshipping country should be ignored.
