Governor of the Federal Reserve, Adriana Kugler, a 55-year-old labor economist nominated to the position by President Biden and whose term was set expire in January 2026, announced earlier today that she would be resigning early, opening a slot on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors for someone to be nominated by President Trump. Whoever the President nominates is likely to be a loyalist to Trump, possibly an official already in the administration, who would assist in his ongoing attempts to shift the balance of power in policy-making within the Fed towards himself, with his nominee likely to ultimately replace the current Chairman of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, when his term ends next May.
