RSS is also way less of a technical lift than federating on AP, so i suspect we'll continue to see a lot more sites offering RSS feeds than have full federation. but the good news is RSS/fedi are pretty interoperable (most AP sites have RSS feeds, and there are RSS bridges to follow feeds from Mastodon/etc)
