I read aloud your post to a group of young farmers last night in #StamfordTexas, @SecRollins. None of them were convinced that they were saved. I take very personally the idea of a “golden age” for rural America. I’ve dedicated my professional life to it, well before it was politically trendy, and to the derision of more than a few people I encountered in school. Rural America is not suffering from a malady caused by “woke,” “Biden,” or anyone’s short-term political malfeasance. The decline of rural America, its farmers and ranchers, and its economic colonization are the result of 8 decades of bipartisan government policy that, through a combination of intent or effect, bargained away rural America’s prosperity in exchange for cheap food, Cold War negotiating leverage, global “free trade,” cheap dollars, and the enrichment of a whole host of people and corporations who would never darken the doors of a farmer’s house. Some of the things that you named are a potential net good to rural America. Much of it will have a negligible effect. Declaring a “golden era” after 200 days undersells the magnitude of the work to be done and it undermines the sincerity of your support for rural America, which I do believe is genuine. This is not a six month job. This is not even a four year job. 80 years of failures take time to repair and we’re only at the beginning. The new 50% tariff on Brazilian imports is more meaningful than practically anything you shared in your post. As someone out in the trenches of the rural work, I ask you: please listen to rural people and work on things that will fix the 80 year failure, whether or not the solutions come quickly or make for a snappy social media post. There’s a whole lot of work left to do. We need your help.

On the 200th day of the Trump-Vance Administration, we are ushering in a golden age for America AND American farmers, ranchers, and producers. We've secured groundbreaking trade deals with UK, Indonesia, Philippines, Japan, South Korea, and EU opening vast new markets for our farmers and ranchers. The wholesale cost of eggs is down 66%. 🥚📉 And the One Big Beautiful Bill made the largest tax cut in American history permanent, slashed the crippling death tax, and allowed border wall construction to resume. Plus, No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and No Tax on Social Security! These unprecedented wins, driven by @POTUS's resolute and bold leadership, empower our farmers and ranchers, boosting rural economies and ensuring America's Golden Age for Rural America - and all Americans - will continue for years to come.
