first of all, gpt-5 in ChatGPT != gpt-5 in API
but it gets more complicated. gpt-5 with minimal reasoning effort also behaves like a completely different model.
gpt-5 *is* a fantastic model with the right harness. and i believe we will see it fundamentally change products.
