History is wild: researching the privacy in voting and it was invented in the 1850s by Australians (secret ballot) 🇬🇧 hated it. The Times called it a “vile system.” John Stuart Mill warned it would let people “give dishonest or mean votes… more readily in secret than in public” 🇺🇸called it “un-American,” warning it would weaken civic courage and hide corruption instead of curing it It took Britain 20 years of debate to adopt it in 1872. The U.S. followed in 1888
