There is an additional factor. All the advances by @SuccinctLabs and @RiscZero and others mean that bridging will no longer be a security risk in the future. So you might as well deploy your own evm compatible L1. It makes sense to me. The L2 thesis is

L2 thesis is dead. Tether, Stripe, Circle all launching their own L1s to compete with Ethereum. Rollup security guarantees don’t matter when you’re using fiat stablecoins or other RWAs. Because those assets are centralized anyway.
