interesting Planet Money episode why it's so hard to find a public restroom and why don't we have private rest rooms apparently we used to have public restrooms to deal with the public health issues then pay-to-use restrooms took off, and then a movement calling private restrooms inequitable took off Now private restrooms are banned, and the slide into public disorder also means public restrooms cost too much to maintain and are sparse This means that restrooms now are basically a patchwork of some public restrooms, and then businesses where you pay for something to use the bathroom (and effectively are defacto private toilets)
