Just to be "that guy" this is a papilloma virus affecting cottontails. The effects are horny growths, related to warts. It's not something new - it's well-known, though the Colorado outbreak is a big one. The virus is spread by bloodsucking insects. It is not known to affect humans, dogs, cats, etc. Just cottontails. Don't touch them because you can spread it to domestic rabbits. For my money, even creepier than these are the giant bot fly maggots that infest wild rabbits. Do NOT look this up if you value your Sanity. I did, and look where it got me.
