After using @PerplexityComet as my daily driver for a week, here's my quick review:
- I don't find myself using the "assistant" tab often, but if I do use it it's to deal with bad software. This is a 100% killer use case. For example, this morning I was trying to figure out how to change my primary and secondary emails in my Chase account, the UX was awful, and Comet one-shotted it for me!
- I'm still very used to seeing proper "search results" when I search for something, some times the AI results were great, sometimes they were jarring. Would love a tab with google style search results
- Also, would like some of the Google style "meta data" in the search like when you look for a location or a person or etc.
- The muscle memory of the chrome icon still gets me
In general, I think I'll still keep it as my primary browser for now. A product like Comet is much faster than other "general purpose assistant" approaches like OpenAI Operator or Manus since it doesn't need to spin up headless browsers. But Assistant is still slower than if you had direct access to APIs/MCPs to accomplish really agentic tasks. Some stuff makes sense to utilize the browser for, some stuff makes sense to utilize actual code for
I do think that @perplexity_ai should triple down here on this as their core product
