my theory on the edw*rd sh*rpe discourse — ultimately a nonstory that came out of nowhere — is that twitter’s recommendation algorithm over the past year or so overindexes on any engagement so starts jamming anything with any even minor interest down people’s throats

fwiw recommendation algos are hard — threads also terrible at this (or was early on, don’t really use it) & overindexes on any signals of interest but twitter seems addicted to the #’s juice. i dont think that makes for a healthy long term network but what do i know…
