The "pick me" type who answers questions to sound smart has a terrible sense of risk/reward. When you're right you still sound lame and if you're wrong look out.

Which can be unnecessarily cruel (but hey sometimes life is like the back of the bus) since the wrong answer to a question in a class setting is the best outcome for the group if the question is worth asking in the first place
