Millions of AT&T users can now file claims for a $177 million legal settlement, with each person eligible for up to $7,500 in compensation.
The first data breach was announced in March 2024, affecting 73 million current and former AT&T users whose personal information (including birth dates and Social Security numbers) was found in a dataset on the dark web. The second data breach was announced in July 2024, involving hackers illegally downloading AT&T data from a third-party cloud platform, resulting in the exposure of "nearly all" AT&T mobile users' call and text message records.
Following a ruling by a federal judge, AT&T's settlement administrator announced on August 4 that a proposed settlement of $177 million has been reached, with $149 million allocated to the first settlement class and $28 million reserved for the second settlement class. However, the settlement still requires approval. According to the settlement website, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas will hold a final approval hearing on December 3, 2025. During this time, affected AT&T users can submit claims for compensation.
