Why do Taylor Swift tickets cost a fortune? The FTC's new lawsuit filed today says sophisticated scalping operations are partially to blame. Ticket broker Key Investment Group allegedly bought 273 tickets for 1 Swift show and resold them at a markup. In total, the FTC says the defendants bought over 370,000 tickets from Ticketmaster in just 1 year, profiting $7 million in markups on resales. By using spoofed IP addresses, fake Ticketmaster accounts, and virtual credit card numbers, the defendants violated the Better Online Ticket Sales Act.
