Yesterday, I met with @HesterPeirce at the SEC Crypto Task Force's first roundtable for their Crypto on the Road series. For many years, Commissioner Peirce has been fighting for crypto: supporting market efficiency, minimal regulation, and freedom. Naturally, she was very receptive towards hearing about our experiences building @Megaphone_hq, especially re: airdrops, tokenized campaigns, and customers from non-US jurisdictions. The roundtable included a diverse crowd: a life insurance protocol with onchain yield, a tokenized hedge fund, a stablecoin service, DAO governance management, a self-custody Bitcoin client, a next-gen DEX on Monad, and an onchain marketing protocol. We talked for two hours and shared our biggest concerns and suggestions that may inform future policy. The key takeaways: 1. Commissioner Peirce wants to "treat adults like adults". As a consumer or investor, if you want to buy something, you should be able to do so without the SEC judging the opportunity on your behalf. 2. The commission is focused on legal clarity for token issuance. Their ask for builders like Megaphone is to keep building useful products so that there are more positive case studies that uphold any new laws that may get passed. 3. Builders are encouraged to experiment and iterate. The SEC encourages all of us to bring questions to them especially when it comes to securities questions because it will either (a) help them clarify with you on your situation, or (b) inform future policy and framework updates. Overall, feeling super energized and ready to accelerate our backlog! Long live crypto in America 🇺🇸
