"The UK's threat to jail four American senior managers was taken out of context" It's a threat to imprison Americans for noncompliance. That is the only context required. The threat was made. The UK sent this to not one, but FOUR U.S. based websites in the last six months.

Taking few sentences out of the context of #Ofcom letter to Gab, this is potentially misleading representation of UK's #OnlineSafetyAct "threatening Americans w jail time" Ofcom is not threatening individual "American" for posting on social media (2/x)
If an American threatened to do what the UK did, there would be a huge civil rights lawsuit and criminal charges. The UK's picture is a little different as a sovereign entity. Fact is, America regards what the UK did here as outrageous. There will be diplomatic consequences.
lol amazing "That wasn't a threat to imprison you, it was only pointing out that if you disobeyed us, we would imprison you and you should understand the seriousness of the consequences of refusal" That's really the line they're going with

Again, #Ofcom issued a letter to 4 websites to provide Illegal Content Risk Assessment under #OnlineSafety, rejecting their argument that they were not subject to UK jurisdiction There was no "threat of imprisonment" in that letter (5/x)
Americans have a First Amendment right to encrypt their data and not provide it to the British government, bud. Protected conduct, threatened with jail time. The govt can enjoy dealing with the state department. I will see y'all in court.

A Pro Forma annex to #Ofcom letter to 4 websites for compliance w #OnlineSafety sets out legal provisions for enforcement - This is fine (not prison) if Illegal Content Risk Assessment is not provided Prison is only if information is false or destroyed (6/x)
Americans have a 1A right to encrypt their data and not provide it to the British, buddy. Protected conduct, threatened with jail time. Politics ain't my department; Labour can have fun dealing with the State Department. I will see y'all in court.
