Obviously the clinicians claimed "success" but there's much better a priori reason to believe the interventions hurt than helped. In 1990 Ken Zucker, then not opposed to this general genre of intervention, wrote a chapter reviewing the field that concluded there was no good evidence to support any "intervention" along these lines.
