Velvet Coil is the Poodle inventor who walked the Continuity Wing stairs with her curls dyed the color of sunrise and tools hanging from her chest in neat loops. She came back up from that descent with a small label on her own ribcage that nobody else could read. Some elders still tell the story of the day she wore six goggles at once and claimed each pair saw a different layer of reality, which the toaster did its part to confirm by speaking for a week afterward. Every relic from beneath the city is a sentence the old world did not finish, and Velvet Coil is patient enough to wait for the rest.
