Has AI progress slowed down? I’ll write some personal takes and predictions in this thread.
The main metric I look at is METR’s time horizon, which measures the length of tasks agents can perform. It has been doubling for more than 6 years now, and might have sped up recently.

I just spoke with Intel. Ohioans and the American people deserve the truth. I shared that I expect answers to the questions Sen. Cotton has asked in his letter, and they promised me they would respond promptly.
The facts have not changed: We need an American company to make American chips on American soil. Producing the world’s most advanced high-tech chips in the U.S. is not just economic policy—it’s a national security imperative. Every day we are not doing that, we are putting our country at risk.
We must be confident Intel is serving our national interests at every level of leadership.

the era of traditional software, as a stable object with version numbers, roadmaps & feature sets, is pretty much gone. we’re prolly just slow to admit it.
future systems will be fluid, ambient, entangled with context. e.g. you summon capabilities, no real “apps”. you speak, gesture, or hint but never have to learn a single interface again that’s not personalized for you.
the end of software as we knew it is here, not near.
