Monad & MegaETH: 2 completely opposite marketing playbooks ⬇️
> $MON backed by VCs and KOLs
Monad had already raised about $244M across 2 rounds:
• Seed 2022 → $19M
• Series A 2024 → $225M
These were private rounds, with no community allocation.
Token distribution followed the same logic: many KOLs received massive allocations through the "Monad Cards", sometimes without even knowing why they were given so much, while early users and genuine believers ended up with little to nothing.
Result → strong exposure and immediate traction but a community that feels disappointed.
> $MEGA backed by the community
Echo round, Fluffles, ICO - everything was designed to reward early supporters and true believers (especially the ICO, where the team applied a U-shaped model + engagement criteria to favor active community members).
Result → the criteria were strict, so some people got nothing, but the logic was understood: reward those who genuinely supported the project from the beginning. Many even praised the transparent approach.
(MegaETH also raised from VCs, but the difference is that the community was then able to enter through the Echo round at a price similar to VCs, which is extremely rare for a project of this scale).
In the end, both strategies achieved what their teams intended:
Monad gained massive exposure through KOLs, while MegaETH aligned its long term vision with its community.
Now the question is which strategy will prove most effective long term? Personally, I’m betting on MegaETH.
