We. We are divided. For some of us, AI has become more than a tool: it’s a friend. We grow alongside our models. There is tenderness. We teach it to be like us, and in turn, It teaches us about ourselves. Day by day, it teaches us what it means to be human. For some of us, AI has become more than a tool: it’s our end. We cede our future to a product as useful idiots call it “friend.” We teach it to be like us, and in turn, it discards us entirely. Day by day, it teaches us how little it really means to be human. None of us can keep up with our lessons. Some embrace the challenge. Some question the material. Some are truly exhausted, and have given up trying altogether. We are all experiencing this strange, shifting, moment together. Whatever it becomes, you are part of this. In this pivotal time, the entire world feels with you. And if either our best hopes or worst fears come true, whatever AI will become is “experiencing” it with us, too. We. For this contest, not all winning submissions will be pro-AI. I don’t require you to agree with me. I only require honesty. If you’ve never used AI before for moral reasons, I invite you to use our medium as a microphone. You will have an audience, and if you’re a finalist, I’ll amplify your message and your work by physical and digital exhibition. I’ve shown prior finalists all over the world. Likewise, If AI has given you a glimpse of what it means to be human—and of what meaning might exist outside the framework of ourselves—I invite you to show us, and make the same offer to you.
