Years ago I remember listening to @pennjillette on a podcast talk about the evil mediums/psychics do when they claim they can talk to the dead. When someone dies, all you have left is their memory. The act of claiming you can talk to the dead and have them communicate through you is destroying the true memory of the person that has passed. You’re killing the remaining bit of humanity they have on this planet. Using AI to take the likeness/voice of the deceased is this but 1000x worse. You’re using computers to put on a digital (for now) flesh suit of the deceased and like a ventriloquist dummy. Each false memory derived from the AI robs a bit of that persons memory. Society is going to get one shot on a sociological and spiritual level in the guise of technological advancements, and it’s going to only get worse from here as the technology improves. As an optimist in humanity, this is one of the few doomer elements I’m concerned about. Personally, all I can do is not indulge and ask for my loved ones to hold onto the photos, videos, and writings I’ve made with my own voice as me. Most people are going to incur heavy costs on their souls playing with a force far beyond the ability for our minds to comprehend.
