The very first version of Fizzy looked like this. Black is the original sketch, the colorful version is the initial working prototype.
Before it was called Fizzy it was called Splat.
The idea was born from "bugs hitting a windshield". What a fun metaphor for a bug tracker, we thought.
We took the idea as far we could before we just hit natural limits of "splats" as an interface concept.
I still reflect on this genesis fondly. And I love that we just went for weird.
I also love that we weren't attached to it. And I also love where we ultimately landed which looks nothing at all like where we started except for the underlying theme: Colorful, fun, and functional. Business software should not be boring.
I'll share some other designs we tried along the way in future posts.
