I usually agree with @jon_charb but as a founder who sees the VM network effect first hand – I disagree on this take. Case in point: When I try to partner with someone who is already integrated to Solana in some way, there’s a conversation to be had. But if they’re pure EVM? It’s a dead-end. Or too much work for them to justify on a new chain. Can’t blame them. Same VM? That lack of friction from the VM compatibility plays out a million times a day in millions of ways under the covers, and results in positive network effect. And then if one VM is growing, new entrants will pick/learn about the bigger ecosystem (as it becomes like choosing IBM) and it becomes self–fulfilling. Another reason I’m always trying to align with other SVM instead of butting heads for no reason.
