One of the hardest parts of entrepreneurship nobody talks about? You don’t have a feedback loop for your own performance. When an employee is underperforming, there’s a system. Performance reviews, improvement plans, check-in calls. They’re benchmarked against others in similar roles. But as an entrepreneur, none of that exists. No one is going to tap you on the shoulder and say, “Hey, you’re slipping here. Get your act together.” The only real feedback you get is from the market. Is your company growing, or is it shrinking? The problem is that’s a lagging indicator. By the time the market tells you you’re underperforming, you’ve already been underperforming for a while. That’s why entrepreneurship is so difficult. It’s also why I believe in bringing in experts who can pinpoint where you’re falling short. And more importantly, having the self-awareness to know where you might be dropping the ball.
